The prophet Jeremiah uses the analogy of broken/cracked cisterns that cant hold water to describe that the children of Israel have basically traded the one true and living God for the artificial. For temporary pleasures and false God that are not real. (Jeremiah 2). We have a world that is in trouble because we have things that we think bring satisfaction, peace and contentment when true satisfaction, peace and contentment only comes from the true and living God!
